Cancer Support Salisbury was formed in September 2019, following the the closure of Wessex Cancer Trust's Salisbury Centre.

As a team of volunteers who used to work at the trust, we recognised that
this closure would create a gap within the cancer support services for the
local community, and felt passionate about continuing to offer a similar service.

With huge encouragement, and ongoing support from Community First, an initial
start up fund from Macmillan, and further funding from Community Organisers,
we were able to take the thought of starting our own group, to reality.

We are also fortunate to be most recently working with Wessex Community Action,
who provide us with invaluable advice, and lots of additional training opportunities.

We meet weekly, each Wednesday from 9.30am until 11.30am, and
Thursday from 2pm until 5pm at the Quaker Meeting House in Salisbury.

Our drop-in sessions are informal, and we are open to anybody affected by a
cancer diagnosis, including family members, carers and friends.

We offer a relaxed, non medical environment where people can come, and just be themselves, make new friends, and invite the opportunity to share emotional and
practical advice with each other. The kettle is always on too !

Our volunteer befrienders, who are trained in listening skills,
are on hand to welcome you, and provide a non judgemental listening ear.

In addition to our drop-in, we provide a range of Complementary Therapies,
which include Aromatherapy, Massage , Reflexology and Reiki. “The difference it makes
is amazing”, one client said “ that they felt like they were walking on air”
when they came out of a session.
You can read more about our therapies under Our Services section.
We do ask for a minimum donation of £5.00 per therapy, to support us
with our funding efforts.

Currently we are the only drop-in group within Wiltshire, that offers support to people diagnosed with all types of cancer. However there are some excellent
specific support groups available, which you can find within our Resources Section.

We aim to try and lessen the workload for our G.P’s and other healthcare
professionals, by offering our non medical care support, and advertising this
within many of our local surgeries. We also work closely with Salisbury NHS and
Macmillan, who refer people to our group as part of the aftercare leaving hospital.

Our shared vision is to be able to expand our services , and offer a wider variety
of support to our community, by working with other therapists specialising in
Mindfulness, CBT, Art, Nutrition, Counselling and Hypnotherapy to name but a few!

Anyone who feels they can offer their services in a professional capacity
are welcome to contact us.

We are always keen to welcome enquiries for volunteering
roles, these may range from meet and greet, to fundraising and events, to publicity,
cake baking, therapies, or perhaps you are a local company wishing to become
involved with our group, by providing sponsorship?

Do get in touch by emailing us, or by using the form on our Contact Us
page or even call for an informal chat.

Cancer Support Salisbury is self funding, and in order to expand, and keep
our dream alive, we are reliant upon our own fundraising efforts, the
generosity of public donations, and grant schemes.

If you would love to make a donation, we would be very grateful, and you
can visit our Help Us page for information on how to do this.

Thank you so much, and we look forward to welcoming you!
