Complementary therapies are used alongside, or in addition to, conventional medical treatments. Whilst they do not claim to treat or cure cancer, many people are choosing to use
complementary therapies to help support with their physical and emotional health,
to relieve symptoms and side effects of medication.

Some of the ways in which our therapies may help you:
• Feel better and improve your quality of life
• Reduce stress, tension and anxious feelings
• Improve the quality of your sleep
• Feel more in control by making a positive lifestyle change.

Our therapist Rachel is highly trained, fully insured, and has
many years of experience under her therapeutic belt!

At Cancer Support Salisbury we can offer you the following non clinical treatments,
which are provided to all those affected by a cancer diagnosis,
this includes carers, partners, husband, wife and family members too.

More widely known as Swedish Massage, and involving only

the soft tissue areas of the body.

A variety of strokes and pressure techniques are used to

improve circulation, remove natural waste products from the

tissues, stretch ligaments and tendons and generally

ease physical, and emotional tension.

A good treatment for those seeking relaxation

and improving energy levels.

If you have recently had surgery on your under

arm lymph nodes, it is advised not to have any deep tissue

massages around that area.

It is also important to know that during your radiotherapy

treatment any areas being treated should not be massaged.

AROMATHERAPY

Natural Medicine

The Greek physician Hippocrates wrote:

” The way to health is to have an aromatic bath, and scented massage every day”.

This treatment uses essential plant oils, (essences

extracted from various parts of plants – petals, berries,

zest, leaves and roots) which are personally blended

for the specific needs, or symptoms of the person

being treated. Each oil has its own unique healing

and therapeutic potential, which when used with

gentle massage, offers a powerful treatment that’s

especially useful to enhance and support our health and wellbeing. Aromatherapy massage makes use of the senses of touch and smell. Our therapist will blend a mix of essential oils, together with a carrier oil, created specifically for you.

Whilst Aromatherapy is most commonly combined with massage, it can also be used effectively in diffusers, compresses, aromatic baths, foot baths, steam inhalations, creams and ointments.

Recommended for : Anxiety and stress, Muscular aches and pains, Digestive problems, Menstrual and menopausal problems, Asthma, Eczema, Sleep disorders, Skin problems, Fluid retention.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a gentle and effective form of therapeutic

treatment applied to the feet and sometimes to the hands.

It is based on the belief that there are reflex areas on the

feet, and hands that correspond to all the parts

of the body,including major organs.

Reflexology is suitable for all ages, including

children, and can bring relief to a wide variety of

acute, and chronic conditions. Whilst this therapy does

not claim to be a “ cure all ", numerous disorders have

been successfully supported by this treatment.

Recommended for : Nausea, Pain, Migraine, Sinus disorder,

Hormone Imbalance, Digestive problems, Breathing disorders,

Tension, and Stress.

If there is time allowing during consultation, we can sometimes offer you a short “taster session”, however your first full therapy will be provided at your following appointment.
